rare tanto by Sa Yukihide (NBTHK Tokubetsu-Hozon)
Tanto in shira-saya (NBTHK Tokubetsu Hozon) with saya-gaki by Dr. Shibata Mitsuo and matching contemporary koshirae.
Signature: Sa Yukihide (Shin-Shinto, Kaei period ca. 1848 - 1854).
A rare work by Sa Yukihide. Daggers by him are very rare.
A new master polish by Mishina sensei shows in a spectacular way the perfection of the steel, as well as all other attributes of an excellent Soshu work.
The Saya-gaki by Dr. Shibata Mitsuo describes it as a great work, Showa 44 (1969).
The blade length is 19.7 cm, the sori is straight, the hamachi is 2.6 cm. The kasane is 6 mm. The hade is a ko-itame with much chinie and thin chickei. The hamon is a suguha in radiant nie-deki with partial double hamon. The boshi is hakikake.
The koshirae consists of an unvarnished wooden scabbard with a same handle.
